Tanzanian Coffee Beans

Tanzania is located on the East coast of Africa, bordering the Indian Ocean. It was formed in 1964 by a merger of the independent state of Tangnyika and the island state of Zanzibar. It consists of a vast plateau which is covered with many lakes and dominated by the high volcanic mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Tanzanian Aribica coffees are grown on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro at heights of 2,800 to 5,700 feet above sea level. The coffee trees are grown next to banana trees which help for shading. The coffees are grown on small family farms, with an average size of 2 to 5 acres, to large plantations which are 25 to 50 acres in size.
The top grade of Arabica coffee is the Tanzanian AA. The beans are a fair to large size bean, and green to grayish in color before roasting. Its flavor characteristics are as good as those of Kenya, with a complex composition of body, acidity and wine-like qualities, and mellow flavor.
A peaberry is a coffee cherry which contains just one rounded bean instead of two "half" beans. A rare treat, it is rich and snappy in the cup, with a wild, earthy flavor profile.
